This morning, after waking up, we headed straight to a local coffee shop in the town of Egilsstaðir. With lattes and bagels in hand, it was the fabulous start to the day before setting off on our northern adventure.

Before hitting the road, we spent a little time exploring the town, browsing a few shops and soaking in the peaceful vibe of the area.

From there, we began our journey toward our next campsite, with a few unforgettable stops along the way.

First up was Rjúkandi Waterfall, a beautiful and powerful cascade right off the main road, a quick stop, but so worth it. Next, we made our way to Stuðlagil Canyon, with its dramatic basalt columns and flowing water. The views were incredible and the short hike offered a great perspective of the canyon.

Afterward, we ventured into a nearby lava field for a short hike. Jagged black rock stretched endlessly in every direction, like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Steam rose from cracks in the earth, adding an otherworldly touch to the already dramatic scene.

A few more scenic stops later, we arrived at our campsite, perched above an old church nestled within the lava fields, right on the edge of a lake with stunning mountains in the background. It couldn’t have been more picturesque.

We ended the day with a long soak in the local lagoon, the perfect way to unwind, followed by a surprisingly delicious trout pizza, which we gave a strong 9/10.
